- about this livery -

This aircraft is Air Pacific's second Boeing 747-400, named The Island of Viti Levu - delivered on Thursday 26th June at its Nadi, Fiji base. Leased from Singapore Airlines for a five year period and fitted with 28 business class and 430 economy seats with a luxurious seat pitch of 57 inches in business and 32 inches in the economy cabin. Every seat is fitted with an individual in-seat video system offering up to 22 channels of movies, video games and audio entertainment. This aircraft also served with Ansett Australia before their bankruptcy.

This aircraft has been adorned with huge photographic decals of two of Fiji's holiday resorts, Beachcomber and Castaway Islands. The MD&CEO of Air Pacific, John Campbell, said - we wanted to expose the beauty of Fiji in a strong visual manner to as large an audience as possible, so we took advantage of the delivery of this aircraft to create a giant holiday theme. The designs bring to life the Air Pacific advertising slogan "Your Island in the Sky". and provide great exposure of Fiji's tourism appeal as the aircraft will regularly be seen in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and Los Angeles.

The photography was undertaken by Peter Hennings and the preparation of the decals by Admark of New Zealand who applied the design in Singapore following painting of the aircraft in Air Pacific's livery. Cost of the project was around FJD200,000 and the design will remain with the aircraft for at least two years.

The aircraft was welcomed to Fiji with a traditional Fijian ceremony of welcome and dedication under the patronage of the Chief Guest, Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda, CF, MBE, JP, the President of Fiji. It joins the "Island of Vanua Levu", delivered in April 2003, to initially operate daily services to Sydney, four weekly services to Los Angeles and weekly to Auckland.

- Author's comments -

This repaint is a product of around 30 hours of repainting through 3 weeks. Originally, the main focus was to incorporate as much detail into the special colourscheme decals from photos. However as these were done, the other focus went to painting 3D engine fans on a 2D surface, and focusing on the details on the engine pylons and the colours of the wingsets.

As a result, the engine pylons are almost 100% correct compared to the real world PW pylon. The wing colours were also sourced from photos of Air Pacific 747-400 wings.

I'd also like to thank my long time friend, John Tavendale, for giving his kindest permission in letting me use his DQ-FJK original and changing it into DQ-FJL, even though most textures have been changed, such things such as the Air Pacific fonts, the tail alignments and the underwing textures (as well as MANY others) would be made much harder if not for his original paint of the air pacific.

Suprisingly, this is only my SECOND publicly released posky 744 gmax repaint and there will be plenty more in the future! Most 744 operators will be painted (asian, european, US based carriers). As well as other models.

Thankyou for downloading this repaint and i hope you enjoy her, as much as I did painting her.
Hope you enjoy, Your Island in the Sky!
